The government has banned 51-week leases for student housing, aiming to reduce costs for students.

This change will take effect for the upcoming academic year, ensuring that leases align more closely with the academic calendar, typically 9 months.

The new law is part of a broader effort to make student accommodation more affordable and accessible. Student representatives and housing advocates have welcomed the move, seeing it as a step towards alleviating the financial burden on students and their families. Landlords must now adjust their rental agreements to comply with this new regulation.

Authorities have cleared an asylum seeker camp from Phoenix park. This is the 2nd removal (the last one was in Grand Canal).

Over 100 tents were removed in a multi-agency operation involving the police, Dublin City Council, and health services. The asylum seekers were moved to designated accommodations at Crooksling and the former Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum, which provide facilities such as toilets, showers, and 24-hour security.

Ireland is set to ban XL Bully dogs following a series of violent attacks, including a fatal incident involving a young woman in Limerick.

Starting October 1, it will be illegal to import, breed, or resell these dogs.

Current owners must comply with strict regulations on licensing, microchipping, and neutering. Failure to adhere to these rules could result in fines up to €2,500 or imprisonment for up to three months. This decision aligns Ireland with other UK regions that have already implemented similar bans to prevent further attacks.
