NEWS
The double drowning in Dublin’s Grand Canal is believed to have been a tragic accident where one man fell into the water and the other died trying to save him.
Donal Scanlon, 49, and 42-year-old Alex Warnick were homeless and had been sleeping in two tents pitched by the water’s edge at Grand Parade in the days before the tragedy. It is believed one of them fell into the canal and the other waded into the water to try and save him but in the darkness both men drowned.

Finance Minister Jack Chambers and Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien are considering a significant increase to the Rent Tax Credit, potentially giving single renters an extra €1,000.
Initially, the scheme allowed single renters to claim €500 and couples €1,000, which was later increased to €750 and €1,500, respectively.
Now, discussions for Budget 2025 hint at €1,000 for individuals and €2,000 for couples. Minister O'Brien emphasized expanding the renters' tax credit and scaling up the First Home scheme, with an additional €80 million investment. Budget Day is set for October 1st, and the support structure will differ from previous years.

At a medieval site in Ballyfermot, 32 ancient human remains have been found.
Dublin City Council (DCC) is overseeing the excavation at the old De La Salle monastery and primary school. Inspections are done bi-weekly, with the latest on June 17.
Evidence suggests the site was a cemetery from around 500 AD to 1000 AD. The land is being developed into 839 housing units by Dwyer Nolan Developments Ltd. Work has paused multiple times due to these finds. Councillor Daithí Doolan emphasized protecting and recording the findings. Extra security was added after videos showed people interfering with the remains.
