NEWS
AIB has issued a warning about an increase in "taxi scam" fraud, where scammers pose as bank representatives to collect customers' cards.
The scam typically begins with a fraudulent text message, followed by a phone call claiming the customer's card is compromised. A taxi driver or courier is then sent to collect the card, sometimes along with the PIN.
In some cases, customers are instructed to leave cards under doormats. AIB emphasizes that it will never request customers to hand over their cards or PINs.
The bank urges vigilance and advises customers to end any conversations asking for such information. AIB handles scam cases sympathetically on an individual basis.
Also, don’t believe any of the Elon Musk investment videos you see as ads. Those are shite too.
Recent trials of a four-day work week in Ireland and the UK have shown promising results, with increased productivity and employee satisfaction.
This shift challenges the traditional five-day model, which became standard in the early 20th century. The four-day week offers benefits like reduced commuting and more leisure time, but also presents challenges in scheduling and customer service.
Some executives resist this change, viewing it as a lack of commitment from employees. However, the desire for work-life balance is growing among workers.
As workplaces evolve, forward-thinking businesses are likely to adapt to these new models, potentially paving the way for even shorter work weeks in the future.
An Irish Examiner analysis reveals a significant shift in Ireland's prison population over the past five years.
The number of inmates serving sentences for sexual violence and assaults has increased by nearly 70%. This change, along with rises in drug offence sentences and those held on remand, has led to severe overcrowding in Irish prisons.
As of last week, 5,054 inmates were housed in facilities designed for 4,514. The surge in sex offenders has created additional logistical challenges, requiring separate accommodations. Consequently, there's been a notable increase in longer sentences, with more prisoners serving terms between three and ten years. The Prison Officers' Association warns that this overcrowding poses serious security risks, as evidenced by a recent incident at Wheatfield Prison.
